Employing an SEO Company

Employing an SEO Company

If your looking to employ an SEO company to help you and your business with your search engine optimisation requirements, this article should help you.

Its not easy looking for an SEO company that you think will do the best job for your website. In fact it is probably as hard as signing up to a 3 year course of search engine optimisation at a university and learning it yourself (well, maybe not that hard) but it’s certainly not an easy task. Below are a few things that you should consider when looking to take on a search engine optimisation company to build, maintain, and optimise your website for the major search engines.

Where Are They?

When looking for an SEO company to optimise your website you should first of all look for a company who is highly ranked for the major search terms themselves, if they can’t show up on the first page of the search engines for their own keywords, how are they going to do it for you?

Where Are Their Clients?

When speaking to an SEO company that you think might be a good bet to take on, there are a few fundamental questions that you should ask them first. For example “where are your clients?” at this point, if they are any good they will offer you a few case studies to call and see where they are ranked. Also to ask them what they think of the SEO companies services in whole, (try to get about 5 different customers to contact to get a good idea)

Are They A Reputable SEO Company?

Type their company name or their website address into Google and see what comes up. Do they have any reviews on any forums or any news about how they operate on any industry related blogs. I know for a fact if you type in the name of certain SEO Companies there are a list of sites that come up with reviews about them that would turn any prospective customer away immediately. (Do your homework on the company first)

Another thing you need to question a prospective search engine optimisation company before hiring them is if they are going to do a full analysis of your website, and implement on page optimisation as well as off page optimisation to help you rank highly. Link building is no good if your site is not search engine friendly for the keywords that your looking to rank highly for.

A question that you will also have to put forward to every SEO company before taking them on for search engine optimisation work would be cost. I’m sure this is a question that will come naturally to many, however in the SEO industry cost can vary a lot between companies, when the service, and the time spent on the site can be very much similar. You need them to break down that cost so that you know what your getting for your money, and they should justify why they are charging the figure that they are asking from you. Ask for a full written proposal from a few companies and compare not only the price, but also what your getting for that price to help you make your decision on what SEO company to use.

Hard question. But here's what Search professionals do….

The one, best reference is to see if they are members of the largest most reputable group of Search professionals, SEMPO (the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization. Their directory of member companies is here: http://www.sempo.org/directories/ You can find one in your areas with that link. It's not an endorsement but it's very helpful.

What else can you do? Here are some RED flags – don't work with any vendor that says they guarantee or promise the top spot or even the first page. Either they can't deliver or they will get you rankings for keywords that don't prove value, such as for your brand name.

SEO's for small businesses are typically small businesses themselves, so get local references. Ask for five and call at least three. Remember that you don't need just traffic, you need "quality" traffic and that's what makes a good SEO. Ask the references if they get more SALES as a result.

As a fall-back, call your yellow page provider. All of them have an SEO program (AT&T, Yellow Book, Verizon etc.). They are reputable and have generally good results. You can also use Web.com, Yodle and Reach Local. They are national companies and have average results (see links below). They will also give you a good idea of what the right rates should be…

    Good luck!

"Best" and "most affordable" are a contradiction. To get the best help, you need to hire someone who is very experienced and skilled — and who therefore can command high fees. For a low budget, you'll get less experienced and less skillful efforts.

A company that says that they will "put you in 50,000 places" or "guarantee a top-10 position" is almost certainly a scam. The "50,000 places" goal is NOT SEO at all, it's spamming. The "guarantee" is usually worthless if you parse it out. In some cases, the "SEO" firm simply uses PPC bidding and thus as soon as the contract ends, your traffic ends, too.

Unfortunately, SEO requires a lot of planning and work, and takes many months to "pay off."

Using Google AdWords is also more complex than most folks understand. It's certainly a little bit easier to launch and manage, but the cost of PPC advertising is also impacted by your SEO work.

    Good luck.

How to find a good SEO Company? The plain fact is that there are very few excellent SEO companies but there are tens of thousands of SEO companies that advertise their poor quality services. It is an unregulated and relatively new industry in considerable demand, so this is not so surprising.

Good SEO companies are in great demand and the first thing NOT to do is use one that offers their services on Yahoo answers! No professional SEO that is any good has the time to solicit clients through such a medium or even needs to do so.

Here is the procedure I recommend.

Start by looking here http://www.seoconsultants.com/ which is about the nearest you can get to peer reviewed SEO consultants directory. Draw up a list of (say 10) companies whose web presence and spectrum of services meet with your approval.

Then make a simple initial approach to these companies and reduce the 10 to a short list of 3 or 4 based on the quality of their response (as you see it) and their understanding of your requirements.

Now interview the companies on your shortlist and include the following questions and requests:

    1. Ask for 5+ references and current clients and make sure you follow them all up taking notes along the way.

    2. What type of reporting will they provide?

    3. Do they offer Return On Investment (ROI) analysis?

    4. Can they assure you that the optimization strategies and methods used will be ethical and hence guarantee no penalties for your website?

    5. Do they place a link on their clients sites to their site? If they do you can reject them right away.

    6. Ask to see a sample contract. Check that it says 'what is' and 'what isn't' required on the clients part and also details what they say they will do.

    7. How many hours will they put into working on your site?

    8. Make sure you will not be 'ransomed' if you decide not to use them any more at some stage.

    9. Do they outsource any of the work? If they do you can reject them right away.

    10. What results can you expect and over what time scales?

Once you have the answers to these questions for the companies on your short list you will find making a correct choice quite straightforward.

One last thing. The best SEOs in the world work for themselves because they make more money that way and those that choose to have clients do not come cheap so if you want a good ROI don't look for a bargin.

    Good luck!

How to choose a professional SEO Company?

1- Check their (SEO Companies') sample rankings with competitive search terms..use inventory.overture.com to see if their search terms are really competitive.. Bunch of SEO companies shows ranking with tricky search terms nobody use…
2- Call their top ranking clients to verify if they are real, and ask about the benefits they are getting from SEO services..
